Kyle Kato
Kyle Kato is a rising saxophonist and educator originally from Diamond Bar, California. He has performed in venues across the globe such as Segerstrom Concert Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, and the University of Michigan’s Hill Auditorium. As a soloist, Kyle has recently received the 2nd prize in the 2024 Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, Honorable Mention in the 2023 MTNA State Young Artist Competition, and Semifinalist of the 2024 North American Saxophone Alliance Collegiate Solo Competition.
Kyle has participated in commissions and premiers of new works by composers such as Karalyn Schubring, Ryan Lindveit, Jason Zhang, Joey Karz, and Jennifer Higdon. As a chamber musician, he has received recognition and top prizes from the CAG Louis and Meisel Competition, Fischoff National Chamber Music Association, MTNA, and Briggs competition. He is currently pursuing master’s degrees in Saxophone Performance and Chamber Music at the University of Michigan where he holds a bachelor’s degree in Saxophone performance under the teaching of Grammy award-winning saxophonist Timothy McAllister.
